On this day in 1851 the Great Exhibition had been open for a couple of weeks. 24,204 visitors came to the Crystal Palace on 15th May 1851 on what was a bright dry day.

The 1851 Royal Commission is sad to hear of the death of Peter Higgs, who was awarded an 1851 Fellowship in 1953. He was an inspiration to many within the UK and International Science environment and will be much missed by the 1851 community. We offer condolences to his friends and family.
